A Chicago-based trio specializing in the forgotten small group styles of the 1920s.
The Blue Three is a Chicago-based trio comprised of banjoist and guitarist John Donatowicz, pianist Andy Schumm and clarinetist John Otto.
The group's unique performances of early jazz classics and pop songs from the 1910s, '20s and ‘30s are suitable for listening and dancing alike. Their style is characterized by a distinct, original approach to Chicago jazz and dance music traditions.
John Donatowicz is Chicago's premier tenor banjoist. He started out as a blues guitar player, but quickly fell in love with other early American styles of music.
Andy Schumm is a world-renowned traditional jazz musician. He performs on many different instruments, such as piano, clarinet, cornet, and drums.
John Otto is a fixture of Chicago's traditional jazz scene. He's a veteran of many groups, including the Red Rose Ragtime Band, Chicago Rhythm, and the Chicago Jazz Band. All three can be found performing regularly with both the Fat Babies Classic Jazz Band and the Chicago Cellar Boys.
