One of the most compelling and adventurous pianists of his generation [Chicago Tribune],” RON PERRILLO grew up in South Florida where he taught himself to play trumpet and baritone horn, later studying jazz informally under JB Dyas.
During his Florida years he performed with Florida greats Jaco Pastorius, Randy Bernsen, Othello Molineaux and Ben Champion and visiting artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Slide Hampton, Frank Wes, Paquito D'Rivera and Michael Brecker.
He made his Chicago debut with Ira Sullivan at Joe Segal's Jazz Showcase. Moving to Chicago in 1990, Ron was taken under the wing of piano giant Jodie Christian. Ron has performed and recorded with Pharez Whitted, Ira Sullivan, Bobby Broom, Von Freeman, Brad Goode, Geof Bradfield, John Wojciechowski, Scott Burns, Randy Bernsen, Fareed Haque, Caroline Davis, and Victor Goines, among others.
He has also been described as “a harmonic genius” and was named as one of the top 50 jazz pianists alive today by The Woodshed Jazz Blog.
