THE SOUL MESSAGE BAND a soulful and infectious style crafted around funky grooves, The Soul Message Band’s sound is rooted in the tradition of great Hammond B3 organists like Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Charles Earland and Groove Holmes.
The Soul Message Band consists of Chris Foreman, the Chicago-based and nationally celebrated Hammond B3 Jazz organist; He and the always solid, drummer, Greg Rockingham, have an over twenty-five year history of performing and collaborating, in several group settings, including, the Deep Blue Organ Trio. That fact is unmistakable in their well-honed musical chemistry, which has taken them from Chicago to Jazz Clubs and Arenas all around the world as both headliners and in support of artists like Steely Dan.
Lee Rothenberg guitarist has emerged as an in-demand sideman in the Chicago Jazz scene. Noted for a style that is deeply rooted in the Jazz Guitar tradition, Lee's playing exhibits the sacred elements of melody, swing, and creativity.
Greg Ward is a saxophonist and composer that was born in Peoria, IL. Currently based in the NYC-area, Ward has had the opportunity to perform and record with a varied group of artists like Prefuse 73, Lupe Fiasco, Tortoise, William Parker, Andrew D'Angelo, and Mike Reed.
Hinda Hoffman -- After attending Bloom School of Jazz in 1988, Hinda spent several years honing her vocal skills at "open mike" nights in Chicago jazz clubs. In 1993, she enrolled in the "Jazz in July" program at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and was selected as the featured vocalist for the Amherst Jazz Festival that year. Hinda has performed at such venues as the Chicago Jazz Festival, the Cabaret Convention at Town Hall in New York City, the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in San Francisco, Van Dyke's Cafe in Miami Beach, and has been seen on the Black Entertainment Television Network. Hinda currently appears in clubs throughout Chicagoland, and can be heard on jazz radio stations across the country. Hinda's repertoire of over 200 standards emphasizes songs by Ellington, Strayhorn, Jobim, Gershwin and Cole Porter. Hinda's CDs, You Are There, and Moon and Sand, which she arranged and produced herself, are available at music stores throughout the Chicago area.
